CAN WE VISIT
YOUR PREMISES AND WHAT DO YOU HAVE ON DISPLAY THERE?
You are most welcome to visit us and we can often arrange evenings
and weekend viewings. There are pedal cars to keep your chimps
amused and they are welcome to try out the beds - as are you!
We are a small company and this means that if we are out on deliveries
the studio may be unmanned so ALWAYS CONTACT US TO ARRANGE A
VIEWING! Its a tiny studio with just enough room for a midsleeper
(in whitewash finish with straight ladder and various tents)
and a bunkbed (in natural pine with underbed drawers) but because
the system is a modular one and utilises many components common
to all set-ups it is easy to visualise most of the other combinations.
You will also be able to see just how high the quality is and
how strong the beds are. We are pleased to say very few visitors
indeed do not end up placing an order if not immediately then
soon after their visit! We carry a large amount of stock and
many of the combinations can be taken away (they will fit most
estate cars/MPV's/roof racks and even smaller cars if mattresses
are not required). Please check stock levels with us in advance
should you wish to collect on the day.
WHAT EXACTLY
DO I GET IN THE BUILDING KIT (EG BUNKBED KIT, MID SLEEPER KIT
ETC?)
In the case of
the mid sleeper it is the 4 posts that raise the bed up into
the air, a ladder and finally the two extra guard rails for the
bed itself to safely contain your sleeping chimp. High sleeper
kits are a taller version of this with a longer ladder and also
some extra horizontal rails to provide exra rigidity at the lower
part (they also serve to support desks if required). Bunk bed
kits are the posts that connect the two beds together, the ladder
and the guard rails for the top bunk)
WHAT IS THE DISTANCE
INTERNALLY BETWEEN THE POSTS?
1965mm x 865mm on the standard beds and 1575mm x 865mm on the
Shorty beds.
WHAT COLOUR IS
THE PINE?
The beds are ade from best quality Scandinavian pine which has
small knots and is quite blonde. However remember that ultra
violet light will mellow the pine over several months and strong
sunlight can make it go quite honey coloured after a year or
two. The White Wash finish is as the name suggests a semi-translucent
finish that allows the beauty of the natural wood to still show
through.
HOW STURDY ARE
THE BEDS WHEN CONSTRUCTED?
Strong enough to withstand an invasion of wilderbeasts (although
this has not actually been tested under laboratory conditions
we believe it to be true). You will not find a stronger bed on
the market. The timbers themselves are much thicker than those
normally used (see the photo on our homepage) and the fixings
are awesomely strong. But dont take our word for it - come and
visit us!
WHY DONT YOU
HAVE ONLINE ORDERING?
Well for one thing we still mix with people who wear tank tops
and have fondue sets and for another we have learnt from experience
that our customers prefer to talk to a human being when making
such an important purchase. There are so many possibilities with
the Maxi System and it would be quite a complicated website if
it could cope with all the issues that crop up. That said, if
you know precisely what you require and dont wish to spend time
chatting about the price of bananas then please drop us an email
with all the details, contact numbers, address etc and we will
call you back to get the payment details.
WHY DONT YOU
SELL OTHER MAKES BESIDES THUKA?
We have thought long and hard about this but having seen the
competion we have reached the conclusion that the Maxi System
really does stand head and shoulders above the rest both in terms
of flexibility and construction quality. Its as simple as that.
We are the only Thuka Specialists in the UK and this also allows
us to have a wealth of knowledge about our product line.
DO YOU PRICE
MATCH OTHER WEBSITES?
Standard of service - not just at the point of sale but also
on the rare occasion that something should go wrong - is paramount
to us and is more important than trying to corner the market
by cutting overheads to the bone just to get the cheapest price.
However we would be niaive to think that cost was not important
to our customers so we strive to keep prices generally in line
with other retailers. If you find the same products elsewhere
significantly cheaper then let us know and we will look into
it and see what we can do. However please ensure that the products
really are genuine MAXI and not one of the many look alikes that
are only similar when seen on small website images. Some sites
also sell end of line/discontinued products that are not made
to the same high specification. Also ask if they carry their
own stock (which can dramatically reduce delivery time). Also,
please remember that once you have bought the initial combination
from us we will not charge delivery on ANY future orders within
mainland UK. Finally, we use our hard earned dosh to fund
this business rather than yours, preferring to deduct the money
from your credit card once we are safe in the knowledge that
the goods are on their way to you, not at point of sale which
is so often the case with other retailers.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE
BETWEEN SAFETY RAILS AND A SAFETY PACK?
The extra Safety Rails are a complete set of rails to go around
the top bed (making 3 horizontal planks in total per side) and
thus provide extra safety for younger children. The Safety Pack
is the set of grab rails for the ladder. You also get luminous
self-adhesive plastic pads to stick on the treads and luminous
caps to insert on the top of each of the four corner posts of
the bed. The safety Pack is available in pink or blue and is
a particularly useful addition for younger children especially
with straight ladders.
WHAT ARE THE
MATTRESSES LIKE AND DO I HAVE TO BUY NEW MATTRESSES IF I ALREADY
HAVE SOME?
Comfy! They are interior sprung so far superior to non-sprung
and foam mattresses often sold with cheaper bunk beds. Ideal
for all ages but for extra comfort, especially for older children
and/or adults we recommend either our new Tufted Mattresses or
the Pocket Sprung versions. Though more expensive they give extra
support to your back and will last longer so it is a wise investment
if you can afford it. We dont insist that you buy the mattress
from us and you may already have one that you wish to use. The
size is 200cm x 90cm, which is fast becoming the norm in the
UK, and the recommended depth is no more than 15cms so that with
High Sleepers and top Bunks there is still a safe height to the
top of the guard rails (although a set of extra safety rails
will get around this problem if you are stuck). A standard UK
single used to be 3' wide by 6' 3" long. If you have one
of these the width is perfect but it will be about 3" short
on the length. Many people simply shove a pillow in the gap if
they wish to make do for now. Click
here for further information on mattresses.
HOW EASY ARE
THE BEDS TO ASSEMBLE?
As easy as peeling bananas...well almost. The components are
made in Denmark, masters of flat pack, and contrary to what you
often find with flat pack furniture the holes are accurately
drilled and the hardware supplied is almost surgical in quality!
You will find that you will have bits left over rather than be
short of them and the instructions are straightforward. That
said, we always supply our own sheet of helpful hints which we
have formulated having assembled many MAXI combinations over
the years and we recommend that you read these prior to starting.
We are also only an email or phone call away should you get stuck!
It is possible to assemble on your own but it is easier and quicker
with two.
DO YOU OFFER
AN ASSEMBLY SERVICE?
For most areas in the UK yes but please call or email for prices,
stating location and type of combination (bunk bed or midsleeper
etc.)
HOW LONG IS DELIVERY?
This is often the 64 thousand banana question! 4 weeks is the
official delivery time for the majority of areas but please let
us know if delivery is urgent and we will see what we can do.
We carry a large stock of MAXI in our own warehouse which means
that we are less reliant on supplies from Denmark than most.
Many of our orders are delivered in under 2 weeks and next day
delivery is often possible though an additional charge may be
payable. Smaller items such as tents are usually dispatched via
Royal Mail for delivery within a day or two.
CAN WE COLLECT
THE ORDER FROM YOU?
Very often yes but please call us first to check stock.
CAN WE HAVE AN
EVENING OR WEEKEND DELIVERY?
This can often be arranged but does sometimes incur an additional
charge. Please advise your location and order so that we can
advise the options and costs.
WHAT AGES ARE
RECOMMENDED FOR THE VARIOUS BEDS?
The so called experts (you know your child best!) say that with
Bunk Beds and High Sleepers the minimum recommended age
is 6 but as we all know it very much depends on the individual
child. In our experience the little chimps have no difficulty
after 10 minutes of clambering! We had to put our 4 year old
in a High Sleeper simply because we did not have the space for
anything else but as she was always climbing up into her older
brother's high sleeper anyway we could not see a problem! If
you are particularly concerned you can always add an extra set
of rails to cocoon the top bunk/high sleeper even more. This
is shown on Maxi 19. Also, the Safety Pack (available in pink
or blue) obviously helps with getting up and down the ladder
(especially if you choose the vertical version rather than the
slanting one) but again this is not essential. There are no recommended
minimum ages for the Mid Sleepers.
CAN A SLIDE BE
USED WITH A BUNK BED OR HIGH SLEEPER?
Yes with a bunk bed but note that you will have to have a straight
ladder. The slide cannot be used with a High Sleeper.
